Warm Drive

Adelphi students help give gift of warmth each holiday season.

Here at the Hauppauge Education and Conference Center of Adelphi University, student learning takes place in and out of the classroom, benefitting our students and the community. The annual Warm Drive is one way the student organization acts as vital part of the community, interacting with and addressing its needs.

The Warm Drive is a joint initiative of Adelphi’s Hauppauge Center and Pronto of Long Island to help our local community keep warm during the holiday season. The drive encourages the community to donate gently used blankets, coats and winter clothing to help families in need. Our Warm Drive is yet another positive outcome of Adelphi’s community partnerships and longtime commitment to the Hauppauge region.

The School of Social Work Student Organization at Adelphi Hauppauge launched the Warm Drive during the 2011-12 academic year. The students recognized the plight of the homeless in Suffolk County, where many individuals and families were without homes or living in inadequately heated spaces. In response to this need the students partnered with Pronto, a social service organization located in Bay Shore, Long Island,  to collect and distribute warm clothes and coats.

The community’s response to the Warm Drive 2013 was overwhelming. Approximately 3,000 coats and articles of warm clothing were collected and distributed by Pronto to those in need in the local community
